Fabulous Galapagos turtles

We have all seen them at the zoo and we have learned about them when we were in school. Galapagos turtles are wonderful to see whether you are at the zoo in your hometown, or on a vacation in the Galapagos Islands! If you want to learn a little bit more about these turtles, then read on and get educated!

These turtles are not your everyday turtles that you would see at the local pond, these turtles are gigantic! A fully grown Galapagos turtle weighs about 650 pounds, and they are about 4 feet long! But, the neatest aspect about these turtles is their actual life expectancy, they can live to be about 150 years old!

Now, due to the fact that there was a spike in hunting these turtles there is a limited amount of Galapagos turtles, and they are only native to the Galapagos Islands. These turtles are typically grazers and love to just lounge around an graze on green grass all day.

If you find yourself in the Galapagos Islands and you feel like you might be up for seeing some Galapagos turtles, you can find them at the Galapagos National Park as well as the Charles Darwin Foundation. These two establishments have come together and have tried their best to make sure that these turtles are saved and do not fall into extinction. Currently there are only subspecies that actually exist simply due to the fact that the original turtles were killed off.

These turtles are majestic creatures that should be taken care of as well as protected. If you are planning a trip to the Galapagos Islands, then you need to make sure that you make a stop at the Galapagos National Park, and take a look at these turtles. Take your kids and teach them a little something, vacations should be filled with fun as well as a bit of learning and when you go to the Galapagos Islands, there are so many things to see and so many things to learn from.

Plan your trip, and plan your trip wisely and make sure that you make the time and go see these beautiful creatures known as the Galapagos Turtles. Just remember, that if we do not preserve nature like this, pretty soon there may not be anymore of these unique creatures.
