The official name for Galapagos Islands is Archipelago de Colon. In Spanish, it is called Islas de Colon and is also known as Islas Galapagos. The names have been formulated after the Galapagos saddle, which in turn is a name that has been derived from the Galapagos tortoise which has a shell which is shaped like a saddleback. Galapagos Islands are located in Ecuador and these volcanic islands are distributed in the Pacific Ocean. The archipelago of Galapagos lies in the northwestern part of South America and has a population of 40000 people. Situated in Ecuador, this province is blessed with national parks and has been a subject of study by Charles Darwin. Darwin’s theory of inception is based on endemic species found in Galapagos Islands.
